Absolutely in love with Maui. I’ve been 3 times and it never disappoints. A fun excursion that I have done every time I’ve been is zip lining with Skyline Eco Adventures Kaanapali. There guides are hilarious and so fun and the views are incredible. Also a SUPER cute coffee shop you need to check out that has the most amazing chai latte in the world is Belle Surf Cafe. Can’t wait to read more posts about your trip and follow along on Instagram. I’m totally living vicariously through you!

I’m in the midst of planning my honeymoon to Hawaii in June and Maui is one of the islands we are visiting. Loved hearing your tips and advice before we plan too much! Looking forward to hear about the 2nd half of your trip!

Aloha!

Here is a Maui recap from our very first week:

Friday:

We had a 3:30 hour flight from Dallas to LAX and then a 6 hour flight after that. The turbulence was soooo bad guys! Usually turbulence lasts around 5 minutes but this was a solid 30 and I thought I was going to be sick! It also got a little scary at times. You would think by now I would be used to it.

We landed in Maui around 2:40pm HSI, got in our rental car, and headed to the Kaanapali Beach Club, where we are staying for two weeks. We passed out around 7pm haha!

Saturday:

I vowed that I would get in shape on this trip. It isn’t hard to get up and run here because 1. I can’t sleep past 6am and 2. There is a boardwalk you can run along the ocean that goes on for miles and miles.

After the run we just hung out by the pool for awhile. Then we ran to the grocery store to stock up on breakfast and lunch food. Unfortunately, our unit doesn’t have a stove, but they can send up a hot plate for is if we want to boil anything. Food is so expensive here!

Definitely find a place with a stove if you are going to be here for awhile. If not, plan on spending a lot of money on food if you are eating out ($30+ a meal and then add in drinks and dessert!)

I have been going through all of your recommendations to book dinner. We started with Duke’s since we had just ran by it that morning. I got the Ahi Tuna steak and Troy got the Banana Leaf Steamed Island Fish & Shrimp. Basically, you can’t go wrong getting the Ahi Tuna ANYWHERE in Maui! It is always the best choice. We also tried the famous Hula Pie and have now had it twice since!

Sunday:

Sunday was leg day- woof! I am still sore from it! The gym here is really nice.

Then we did another pool day.. there isn’t much of a beach at this resort.

Thennn we went and explored Whaler’s Village– so cute! It is a little mall with a few really nice stores inside.

We ate at Monkeypod and it has been our absolute favorite so far! Great atmosphere and amazing food and Mai Tais! The Ahi Tuna here was out of this world (much better than Duke’s!!) We are definitely going back this next week for the strawberry pie.

We went for another run. I can still only run for 10 minutes at a time but I feel like it is getting a little easier at least.

We decided to get out of the resort again and go for a drive to Nakalele Point. There is a blowhole there and a small heart shaped hole in a rock right next to the blowhole. The hike is super easy. It takes 5-10 minutes climbing down some rocks (wear tennis shoes.) Definitely worth the trip just to see the heart!!

Then we took your advice again and tried Pineapple Grill in Kapalua. The view was amazing but the food was just ok. They didn’t have a very big selection and we really weren’t that hungry. Troy got ceviche and onion soup and I had tuna poke and a wedge salad.

Tuesday:

Tuesday was excursion day! We woke up bright and early (5:30am) and went on a snorkeling excursion to Molokini Crater. It was way too packed at the crater!! It was a horrible experience there but luckily we left and found another site. This site was much better and we saw so many beautiful fish. It was Troy’s very first time to snorkel!!

On the way there and back we also had to stop the boat a few times for whales. Troy and I even saw one do a Free Willy jump completely out of the water! We both gasped! This is why everyone flocks to Maui in January. We will be doing more whale watching throughout the trip.

We were WORN OUT but made it up to Star Noodle for one of the best meals of our LIFE!! It is such a hidden gem that we will go back to again and again. We actually asked the bartender to pick out the meal for us and he did not disappoint!

Wednesday:

Arm day! These boney things need some serious toning!

We then took a very late road trip to Hana. OK. We had heard it was a long day and you guys WERE NOT EXAGGERATING! I would definitely recommend leaving your house around 5:30am to do this trip unless you are planning on staying the night in Hana.. which I would also highly recommend. The road home the same day was suuuper rough.

The Road to Hana has over 620 curves and takes nearly three hours to the town if you make a couple of stops along the way. There are things past Hana to see as well, but we didn’t make it that far since we needed to turn back around if we wanted to get home before midnight.

We are definitely doing this trip again-the right way. I will go into more detail when we do the full tour. We have visitors coming so we plan on doing this trip at least two more times before we leave Maui.

Thursday:

On Thursday morning we got talked into sitting for one of those timeshare presentations. It took almost three hours… we were so mad!

We then spent a few hours at the pool before checking out the town of Lahaina. Seriously the cutest surf town! We are going to head back there on Sunday to watch the playoffs! We jumped in and out of some cute shops, walked down the harbor, and at at Kimos on the water. The food there was just OK as well. Definitely visit the town and plan on spending 4-5 hours there!

So much more fun coming next week- starting with a stay at The Ritz Carlton!
