Our balloon gender reveal yesterday was pure perfection.
Sure, I would have loved if Troy had been able to go to my sonogram with me but so many things were running smoothly that I didn’t really mind so much as I pulled into the doctor’s office.
Gender Reveal Decor
The balloon company I was working with (paying for) last minute had to bail on me because they ran out of helium over the weekend. Ya’ll, I kid you not I found out Tuesday morning. The DAY of our reveal. I called Wow Balloons and they were able to do my gender reveal balloon and a 6 ft garland for the party AND they were able to have it ready by 1pm. I couldn’t believe my luck I actually cried. You guys are going to get so tired of me talking about crying by the end of this pregnancy but I am more hormonal with this baby than I have ever been in my life! The balloons looked amazing and they still look amazing as I am typing this. I highly recommend using Wow Balloons! They also do deliveries!!! I think I paid around $100 for everything I got.
I drove up to my anatomy scan and was just so excited to see our baby that the fact that Troy couldn’t be there didn’t make me as sad as it did the day before. I facetimed him and Miller while she did the sonogram and Miller was zoned in. She loved it! She had me look away when she examined the private area and then went away to print off the images and put everything in a folder for me. THAT FOLDER HAUNTED ME ALL THE WAY HOME.
I picked up our balloons right at one and they had them ready and waiting. They put them in my car for me and explained how to best fasten the balloon garland to the wall. They even gave me these amazing sticker things to tie them with. It was SO EASY to do it myself at home! My mom helped and I think it took all of two minutes. I would definitely recommend a balloon gender reveal if you are short on time and need a quick and easy plan for your party!
Balloon Gender Reveal/Goodbye Party
My family drove in and I had four of my closest friends from high school/college over for the reveal. It was a balloon gender reveal/goodbye party. We waited until my brother in law could take a break in his shift to be at the house and as soon as he got there we did the reveal. It was so hard waiting those extra 45 minutes but I really wanted him there to experience it with us. If you do a gender reveal I HIGHLY suggest trying to do it the day you have your anatomy scan! Having that envelope in my possession and not being able to see it was pure torture and I don’t know if I could have waited another minute to find out.
We ordered pizza, my mom made a cake, and my sister brought cookies. It was perfect. After the reveal we just all sat around and caught up, talked about Colorado, and then later said our goodbyes. Surprisingly there were no tears. I think we were all just so happy to be there together and to get to say goodbye. Plus, it is just a ‘see you later’ after all.
One of my friends took a video of the reveal so we have that one to always look back on! I will definitely share that one later to stories and/or Instagram feed!!! I think I have watched it a million times.

We Guessed the Baby Was a….
We both thought the baby was a girl up until the day of the sonogram. I was 99% convinced. I saw myself as a girl mom and nothing else. I came from a family of three girls and my sister and I both had girls. I thought it was just inevitable that I would have a girl. I was so excited about the thought of Miller getting to grow up with a sister and I was also excited that we wouldn’t have to buy A SINGLE THING for a baby girl. We had everything we needed.
Whenever I mentioned the baby in the past few months it was always as a ‘she’. Or I would say, ‘these would be the girl’s rooms’. I was just that sure. Troy started doing it too!
He also thought it was a girl.
We both wanted a boy. We would have been happy with both OF COURSE. A healthy baby was top priority. I think men just always dreamed of that legacy or namesake I guess. They grew up wanting a son of their own to ‘play ball with’ and so forth. After Miller he was afraid he could never love another girl as much as he loved her. She owns him yall, haha. He knew deep down of course the love would just automatically be there, but he was still a little worried about it. I wanted a son for him, but also because I thought it would be amazing to be able to experience both genders! I wore white at the reveal because in the end I was neutral. I knew we would love both the same!
At my appointment when we saw the profile and read that the heart rate was 135 we shifted our thinking a little. Hmmm, 135? Could it be a boy? It kind of looks like a boy… We still didn’t want to get our hopes up though.
Still, when it came down to getting ready to pop the balloon we were both around 70% sure there would be pink confetti coming out of it.
It’s A…
IT’S A BOY! Can you believe it?!?! I am still in shock. They did such a great job with the balloon, but I would definitely recommend standing back a bit. Troy and I both had safety pins and poked it at the same time and flew everywhere haha. It went all in my mouth and face and hair and I was so in shock from inhaling the confetti that I didn’t even see it was blue until a few seconds after everyone else did. And then the shock turned into emotion and I folded into Troy’s arms and bawled. I think everyone there was crying haha!
Every time I think about that moment and the fact that we are having a BOY I cry. I am just so overwhelmed with gratitude that we have a healthy baby BOY. Troy has not been able to wipe the grin off his face since the news.
I have NO IDEA what to do with a boy and weirdly have only changed my nephew’s diaper a handful of times. I am excited to learn all about being a boy mom though! You guys will have to tell me your favorite places to shop for boy clothes.
I cannot wait for my ‘mommas boy’ and all of the boy snuggles I am about to get!! I also better get in better shape because I am told they are pretty wild! Maybe Miller will tame him down a bit!
Now for a Name?
We thought we would name a baby boy Briggs or Brooks but then we were unsure. Now we don’t think we will use either of those names. We are honestly stumped. I want a cool name that hasn’t been used a million times over and that isn’t super popular RIGHT NOW. Do you have any ideas for us? Please pop them in a comment below!! Thank you!!

I think Everett is pretty cool. It is an old school name that runs on my husband’s side of the family. Congrats to your beautiful family!

We didn’t know if we were having a boy or girl for our second and ended having a girl – Nicole. She graduated high school this year, (2020 strong!) and goes by Nikki. If she was a boy, our boy name Trevor. I love the name. Our first born is a boy, we named Ryan. We wanted common, but not too come. Not a lot of Ryan’s our son’s work age – he’s 19 and just wrapped up his sophomore year at SDSU. Good luck with picking out a name!

We were watching the show Hell on Wheels and saw the actor’s name scroll across the screen – Anson Mount – and knew if we had a son his name would be Anson! We also checked the Social Security Change in Popularity website to see if names we were thinking about were “trending” up, and his wasn’t. I suggest that site if you want to make sure it’s not a name everyone might have in the next couple of years (my sister named her first son Liam 8 years ago and told me about this website she used to ensure her second son’s name wasn’t so common haha). This is what happened with us! We knew we wanted a name that started with M but we were not crazy about anything. Then I saw the name Meyer in a baby name book and LOVED it. My husband did too! Turns out it was also actually family surname. It was meant to be! We still love it and our Meyer is amazing, awesome and as unique as his name. 🙂

Wow so exciting! Congrats 🙂 our 2 year olds name is Nash Dean. Nash after the singer Graham Nash. I know it’s not SO uncommon that it is considered weird or “out there” but also just uncommon enough that I don’t come across it that often!
Congratulations! I have two girls so can’t be too much help with you on boys names – we didn’t find out gender with either so we had to have boys names on the ready but for us it was rather easy because we were just going to take my husband’s dad and brother’s names since they have passed. But how we picked girls names, which you might find a bit helpful, is we took my German heritage into account. So if you can’t somehow incorporate your or Troy’s family names into a first name, see if you want to honor family by taking something from your heritage.
So happy for you! Troy’s joy in these photos is contagious! I must say I still love the choice of Brooks for the name. I’ve only known one guy by that name and he was pretty cool.
