I am heading to NYFW for the first time this year, and by some stroke of luck, have been invited to 5 shows. I am interested in learning more about showrooms. I would love the opportunity to visit one, but I’m not sure I understand how to go about reaching out to them. Also, are there any free lounges, parties, events I can go to? I have recently started a fashion Instagram account, and would love to gain some contacts while in New York. Any help or advice you can offer would be wonderful.

    Thanks,
    Mindie

Sounds like another amazing day!! Thanks for sharing all of your tips, it’s a huge help since I’m totally clueless about this. One question, what do you say when you originally reach out to these PR Firms? You were already working with them before NYFW, so how do you approach them?

Did you see my previous post on my first day of New York Fashion Week? If not, you can read it here. Day 2 was even busier! Day 2 was all about meeting with some of my favorite PR firms. I have worked with some pretty great people so far, so it was a must for me to stop by and meet them face to face.

11 am: Meeting with RedLight PR. Redlight is a huge PR firm in New York. They work with tons of brands including ale by Alessandra, Betty Boop, Girls on Film, Lumier by Bariano, WOW Couture, and many more. They had an awesome showroom!

In case you don’t know how a showroom works: Basically, you can start emailing PR firms as soon as you find out you are going to be in NYC. They don’t have to be firms you have worked with before, but it helps. They usually get back with you with a showroom appointment time. When you get there, you get to browse through hundreds of samples. The best part: they let you check out your favorite outfits and you can wear them all week during Fashion Week! They just ask that you tag the brand in your posts! At Redlight, I picked out an amazing Lumier by Bariano dress that will be on the blog tomorrow (for part 2).

12:30- Lunch (finally). In NYC we just tried to find something close to our next meeting. On Friday we ended up in a tap house of some sorts and had tons of fried food. I had the special of the day: Bacon Mac N Cheese (we were HUNGRY).

2 pm- Meeting with Now + Zen PR. Now + Zen is such a great company and they are the ones who gave me the amazing Desigual seats! I was so excited to finally meet them and even ran into some of my favorite bloggers in the showroom (details coming soon). They let us leave with some Wren & Glory jewelry to keep and I rented an amazing Porte Mode dress. I couldn’t find shoes to wear with the dress so I didn’t end up getting to wear it during Fashion Week. :(.

After Now + Zen we ran to Starbucks and then went back to the hotel to get ready for the Vogue party (details on the blog tomorrow).

What I skipped (because I was exhausted, my feet hurt, and I needed a break from running around all day):

-The Giulietta Fashion Show. Kind of bummed I miss this, but we were running late all day and didn’t get out of the Now + Zen showroom in time. I think building relationships is much more important than going to a show.

-We also missed a showroom appointment with Shoshanna. My friend was staying until Monday night, so we rescheduled for her to go on Monday! Sad I wasn’t able to connect with them :/.

Head back tomorrow to read all about the Vogue party!!!

Takeaway: Don’t just reach out to the brands who are having shows. Reach out to all the PR firms. You can make tons of great connections and basically pick out your entire amazing wardrobe for NYFW. You don’t have to already be working with them. Email a couple weeks before your trip, let them know you love their brands and that you would love to meet them and/or visit their showroom!
