Love to follow Miller’s progress and all your tips as our babe is a few months younger. We learned about sleep through your experience with Taking Cara Babies and shapes of routines. As a result, our routine looks similar to yours and she thrives… she is an amazing eater and sleeper! It also made it seamless in her daycare program (as I went back to work when she was 5 months). Thank you so much for sharing… it’s helped us tremendously.

Wow – everything seems to be food! Judy relax and enjoy each day – they don’t have to live by a schedule.

Babies/toddlers thrive with routine, so while they don’t need to adhere to a strict schedule, having a general schedule like the one Amanda outlined is ideal for both baby and parents. There’s still plenty of time to relax and enjoy your family. Also, food and nutrition are a huge part of a baby’s wellbeing (and happiness) so I’m always looking for ideas in this area. Great post!

I cannot believe I am finally writing this when Miller is about to be 18 months old!

I am so sorry this has taken me so long. And now that I sit here to write this I am incredibly sad because I hardly remember what Miller as a one year old was like. I should have taken more notes. I should have written this then so I could look back on this one day and read exactly what she was like at that age.

So, instead of telling you what Miller was like as a baby at that age, I am going to give you her schedule, eating habits, etc. Those are easy to remember and put together.

*At the end of this post you will find a link to a post I wrote with the TOP 10 BABY PRODUCTS FOR THE FIRST YEAR, and GIFT IDEAS FOR A 1 YEAR OLD (MILLER’S FAVORITE TOYS).

Please note that every schedule is different, but this is just what we do in our house and it works very well for us!

Miller’s Schedule at 12 Months

7am wake, have a bottle

8am breakfast

9am nap

10:30-11am wake, have a snack (usually fruit or veggie)

12:30 lunch

1:30 bottle

2pm nap

3:30-4 wake, have a snack

5/5:30 dinner

6:15ish bathtime or reading time. We do either or. She doesn’t get a bath every night.

6:45 in crib, usually asleep by 7.

*I know a lot of you have been asking what Troy does to keep Miller entertained all day. I have finally talked him into writing a blog post about life as a Stay at Home Dad! He can give you details in that post coming soon!

What Miller Ate at 12 Months

At 12 months we switched to whole milk exclusively. Miller had no issues with it at all. Before the switch she was on breastmilk until 6 months and on Enfamil formula from 6-12 months.

She gets 7-8oz three times a day but usually doesn’t drink all of it (leaves an oz or two in the bottle.)

We introduced solids to her at 6 months (pediatrician recommended). We didn’t go by any particular method, we just started her on purees and then gradually worked up to more solid foods when we thought she was able to chew/swallow them. Take your time with this. You know your baby best! Here is my post on HOW WE INTRODUCED FINGER FOODS.

By 12 months we were basically just giving her whatever we were eating at the time (unless it was spicy or too hard for her to chew!)

She loved throwing food off her tray at this stage (which can be extremely frustrating), but we did what the dr recommended and ignored it and now I can say she has finally stopped for the most part!

She only gets water and whole milk. Still at 17 months we don’t give her juice of any kind. To each his own on this, but we feel like she doesn’t know what she is missing if she never tries it haha!

For breakfast she would get either eggs (we have to put cheese on the eggs for her to eat them), pancakes with a tiny bit of syrup, turkey sausage, yogurt, or oatmeal.

For lunch it was usually chicken (with ketchup or she won’t eat it) and some type of veggie, mac n cheese with a veggie mixed in, squash ravioli, pb&j, grilled cheese, chicken and cheese quesadilla, etc.

For dinner she would usually just eat whatever we had or made that night so it always varies but her favorite is anything with noodles.

There are sooo many meal ideas for toddlers if you google it! That is how we found most of ours!!

MISC

PS- I DID WRITE a blog post when she turned a year old, it just had the top 10 baby products we suggest you grab for your baby’s first year. After a year we looked at everything we had purchased and these made the short list of MUST HAVES/100% WORTH IT. You can find that post HERE. These are all great ideas you can send to your friend if you are missing their baby shower right now during COVID19.

ALSO- I wrote a gift guide for one year old’s. These were Miller’s favorite toys at that age! These are great for birthday or Christmas presents! I am copying that post below:

I probably left a lot out and I am sure you have tons of questions. Please leave them in a comment below and I will add a FAQ to the bottom of this post with all of the answers for you guys!!

PS- my sister put together this amazing video for us that she did on her old film camera. It is a day in the life of Miller at ONE. I basically have been crying to this for the last 5 months!
