Cute romper! I always struggle with finding rompers that are not too short or not too matronly. This looks like the perfect length!

All true! The only reason I know those things is because my bf is a computer nerd. It’s still tricky for me sometimes, though. GoDaddy is great for URLs, I just wish they didn’t try to upsell so much!

And I’mmm baaccckkkk with some great GoDaddy tips for all of you new bloggers out there ( I wish I had this at the beginning)! It wouldn’t be a regular ‘The Miller Affect’ blog post if I didn’t also throw some fashion in there. This is my new favorite romper and it is so comfortable you could sleep in it!

When I first started my blog I had NO IDEA what I was doing. People think there is a world where websites are made for free and you can just start plugging pictures in to it (when I say people, I mean me). I had a huge reality check at the beginning. It took a few months to even get a home page up… I think I am smart and all, but coding is a second language that I just can’t grasp! I ended up spending hundreds of dollars to some third party for putting it together and hosting it for me. All that money later went right down the drain. After three months they told me I needed to pay $79 a month for them to keep hosting my site (whaaat?). I had already paid them hundreds of dollars! I felt scammed and wouldn’t do it and then BAM, woke up the next day and my website was completely gone. If you a blogger you know that having your website down for even a week can mean losing thousands of readers. It was a total nightmare and I felt so defeated. I want my blog to help keep others from making this mistake so I have started my “blogging tips” sessions. I will have these a couple of weeks for awhile until we all are at a point where we are learning together. For the rest of the posts during the week I will be doing my usual fashion tips :).

Today I want to take you through some GoDaddy tips. Some people also like to use Bluehost, but I haven’t used them before so I am going to stick to what is familiar. Once my friend A La Plage starts posting her tips about Bluehost I will link to them as well so you can pick which you like more.

Tip #1, Host your OWN website! It is so much cheaper and you have complete control. You never know what can happen and you don’t want to wake up and years of hard work be gone. It was only a couple months for me and it really, really stung. I know you have always seen those super weird/sexy GoDaddy commercials during the Superbowl and thought “WHAT THE HECK IS GODADDY?” GoDaddy simply sells domains, registration, e-business software and other services (full Wikipedia definition here). There have been controversies surrounding GoDaddy concerning to security and privacy, so make sure you do your research before 100% deciding on them. They now let you pay for extra security features. They are who I use, and I back my site up (which you will learn how to do in a future post).

-Buy a domain. My domain is themilleraffect.com. Tip #1, try to get your blogname.com and make sure you research to make sure it hadn’t been used before (you never know, someone may have already had it and then cancelled. You don’t want it to be associated with something horrible).  If you can’t get your exact blogname.com, I would add style or blog to the end of it. I wouldn’t waste money on other extensions other than .com unless you are scared of being copied. In that case, you can also buy the .org and .net domains as well (but that gets expensive and all of the value is really in .com). Click here to get to the domain page.

-Buy the web hosting. Tip #2: Host your OWN website! It is so much cheaper and you have complete control. You never know what can happen and you don’t want to wake up and years of hard work be gone. It was only a couple months for me and it really, really stung. Click here to get to the hosting page.

-Bonus: Get an email address associate with your domain name. You can also buy your blog email address like amanda@themilleraffect.com. I haven’t done this, but it is on my list. It looks much more professional than a gmail address. Click here to get to the email portion.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes in a comment below. Tomorrow I will have a full list of link-ups on the blog for you!! This is the easiest way to start getting traffic for your blog. If you can’t keep up, pin the image below to ‘Blogging Tips’ so that you can save them for later! xoxo A
