As much as I love Fall and wish I could magically make it appear, we do have a couple more months of HOT weather before we can really cozy up to our pumpkin spice lattes.
This has been a record high when it comes to this intense summer heat. What do you and your family do to cool off?
Many of you will respond to that with ‘we just stay inside’. But I would like to give you OTHER options. Options that include getting outdoors and finding your backcountry.
I don’t care where you live. You should have water near you. You should be able to find a river, creek, or lake for you and your family to visit. And when you do, make sure you are wearing Backcountry.
A Different Kind of Water Activity
I am partnering with Backcountry again today because I can’t really picture an outdoor activity without thinking of Backcountry. I always head to Backcountry when I need to gear up for a fun adventure. Their website is so easy to navigate and you can easily filter for whatever activity you are shopping for. Whenever I get dms on ‘What to Wear in the Mountains’, I always direct them to all of my Backcountry blog posts.
There are obviously tons of water activities you can try once you get to a creek, river, or lake. For us, we just like to set up a little blanket and let the kids play in the water. Their favorite activity right now is just throwing rocks into the water and see how big of a splash they can create. Isn’t that every kid’s dream?
The easiest way to cool off during a hot summer day is finding some water to play in! Tomorrow, when you are trying to think of ways you can be outdoors in this crazy heat, just find a creek, river, or lake close to you and head there with the kids. You don’t need a big agenda. Just let them play and throw rocks.
What to Wear
We like to dress in layers and we always make sure we have on shoes we can get wet. Favorite brands to shop on Backcountry include, but are not limited to: Stoic, Free People, and Teva. Stoic is great for activities where you are going to be moving around a lot. Free People has fabrics for every event. Teva is perfect for those shorter hikes where you know your feet will be getting wet.
I found this strappy crop top from Stoic and it is sooooo perfect for layering. It is soft and light and great when those temps rise. I paired it with these super fun Stoic desert shorts. They have a mesh liner which helps keep your legs cool in the heat and they are super stretchy because of their nylon fabric.
I always make sure I bring something to layer over my tops while hiking or if I plan on being near a river or lake. You never know how much cooler the lake is and when the wind hits it, and then hits you, you don’t want to be unprepared. Plus, if you get your clothes wet in the river you want to make sure you have something to cover up with or change into for the hike back! This Free People Button Down Shirt can be used as a cover up, or just to wear as a tunic with leggings.
Like I said above, I love wearing Teva sandals for water activities. They keep your feet cool and are fine getting wet. I linked mine and a few other pairs (including kids pairs) below:
And, as a bonus, make sure to grab something from The Parks Project to support the National Parks. I love sporting anything from them! I have tons of hats from there already, but wore my fun ‘Leave it Better’ hat for you today as a reminder to always leave any water site better than you found it. <3
I always shop Backcountry when gearing up for an adventure of any kind. Even if it is just grabbing pizza (remember this cute post?) I especially love checking out Backcountry.com when they run their incredible sales.
Backcountry Summer Semi-Annual Sale
One of Backcountry’s biggest sales of the season just kicked off and you can get up to 50% off some of the hottest brands. Troy is already scanning every ski page. He loves this sale because he can restock his gloves, goggles, jackets, etc at a huge discount.
When you live in CO it is important to have quality kid’s gear during the winter months or they won’t last long outdoors I like shopping the Semi Annual Sale and filtering for kid’s gear. I can save up to 50% of kid’s winter coats and ski bibs from brands like Patagonia!
Lastly, we are always talking about family camping trips once the kids get a little older. During the Summer Semi-Annual sale you can get STEEP discounts on hiking and camping gear (like tents, sleeping bags, chairs, etc!)
It is the best sale of the season and one I hope you guys check out!
Can’t wait to hear about your next adventure wearing Backcountry!
